This newsletter is slightly shorter then usual as I have been super busy as of late and had less time to spend on the newsletter. I didn’t want to put anything out rushed or that I wasn’t happy with so I thought i’d shorten it a little. There’s some great stuff this week, with some proper uk vintage 1930’s inspired recommendations, tattoos that blend traditional and modern styles, mules and small brands!
Brand of Week: Unlikely Dry Goods
Shinsuke Nakata, former creative director of BEAMS, has launched a new brand, Unlikely. Inspired by American traditional wear with a mix of highly technical and functional features. Materials are very high quality, using extra long cotton yarn, old-school traditional dying techniques and in even military grade fabric. I really like what Shinsuke is doing here, you can sea the Beams influence but it still looks like he’s building something unique. I think the technical element and materials used make Unlikely really stand out, its definitely a brand that’s going to continue to grow.
Alpine Mountain Parka (Top Left) £640
3way Windbreaker (Middle Right) £428
Grand Coach Jacket (Bottom) £477
The selection of trousers is top notch, with the Sawtooth trousers pictured on the left below that have a military chino like texture, something you don’t see all the time. The denim used on the pair on the right is heavyweight and again top notch when it comes to quality. I think trousers are some of the strongest parts of unlikely, with some great cuts, with real attention to detail.
Sawtrooth Trouser (Left) £360
Painter Denim Patnts (Right) £264
Oldfield Outfitters- Retro UK Knitwear
Looking for new inspiration for the newsletter I started to come across lots of 1920’s knitwear, proper vintage. Getting vintage from back then can be pretty pricy and the pieces are often understandably not in great shape. I found Oldfield clothing and they’ve got a large range of knitwear inspired form this era, made using British wool in the UK they’re pretty close to how it would have been made back then.
1920s Biker Sweater (Top Left) £170
1920s Biker Sweater (Top Right) £170
1936 Zipped Sweatshirt (Bottom Left) £100
1930s shawl Neck Sweater (Bottom Right) £180
New bits from Natra
Some more great drops from Natra this week, i’m a particularly big fan of the cardigan, its a great summer knit and would look great with a white t-shirt underneath. I think we’re going to see a lot more knits in this style where they are some what see few, i’ve got one myself and i’m keen to add more.
Archie Cardigan (Top Right) £155
Marlo Vest (Middle Left) £175
Bailey Check Shorts (Bottom Right) £125
Paula’s Tattoos
Not sure how to describe this style of tattoos but its super unique and i’m a big fan, they seems to be a blend between some more traditional and modern styles. She’s based in Italy however regularly comes to the UK and other parts of Europe.
Labour & Wait
An interesting brand out of East London that offers all sorts of things from kitchen appliances, bathroom equipment and clothing. Most of their designs are focused on being functional and long-lasting, something I like to see in a brand. This reflects one of their key principles that motivated them founding the brand- they’re sick of constantly having to re-design things to suit trends… From taking a look through their stuff, there’s lots of fishermen and generally workwear inspired gear that’s going to be great quality and long lasting.
Work Jacket (Top Left) £225
Guernsey Sweater Indigo (Top Right) £168
Fisherman Roll Neck (Bottom Left) £80
Guernsey Sweater Brown (Bottom Right) £168
Mules
There’s been a lot of mules dropping recently, and with the sun coming out i’ve personally been wearing my mules a lot too. These are some great options if you haven’t got any yet! Though they look like they’re going to sell out so its worth acting sooner rather then later. I also think the YMC mules are pretty reasonably priced considering the shoe market nowadays.
YMC x Merrell (Top) £130
ERL Camino (Bottom) £338
wow! i know someone who would look great in those shorts, and the cardigan
