Week 13- Niche Functional Clothing, Modern/ Traditional Tattoos and Furniture, & New Releases
Have found some great brands this week, Paratodo being one of my favourites so i’ve dedicated a section for them. There’s also a lot of new releases this week, such as the Timberland Mules and the Clarks x Martine Rose releases that all seem to be selling out pretty quickly. Found a great tattoo artist that’s got some traditional-ish designs that are super unique! And also some furniture I thought was cool, as usual, there’s plenty of different things to look through!
Parotodo
Parotodo is a great brand focused on functional design and philanthropy, where they use 25% of their profits to contribute to different humanitarian causes. Much of the inspiration behind Parotodo is from the founders brother, who he sadly recently lost to drug addiction. What I like so much about Parotodo is that it’s a brand thats both rich in culture and ethos but also has got some really great clothing behind it thats unique and clearly super well thought through. I’ve highlighted some of my favourite pieces below with links and prices!
Archetype Jacket: Plaid Seersucker (Left) £201
-Inspired by 80’s racer and flight jackets which really comes through in the small details, the collar being a good example. Made from high quality seersucker sourced from Japan and pretty reasonably priced all things considered. Big fan of this jacket, for Spring/ Summer especially, super easy to wear whilst retaining some unique elements and a nice baggy relaxed fit.
Archetype Jacket: Military Cream (Right) £201
-Definitely have a look on the website to see through the mesh texture properly, looks great and would work really well with a white t-shirt underneath.. Its also got a similar collar to the plaid jacket with that 80s racer jacket inspiration coming through.
Millie Shirt: Tartan Plaid (Top Right) £126 - Lots of small details that makes this a great shirt, subtle chest and hand pockets, buttons to adjust waist- which I think look great and seersucker right from Japan.
Jungla Tech Shirt: Old Navy Grid (Left) £119 -Some BIG zipped chest pockets that are awesome, these guys do pockets really well. Hand-block print from Jaipuar in India is great too!
Millie Shirt: Oceania Seersucker (Bottom Right) £126 -Contrast stitching is super fun, collar’s pretty cool as well, reminds of a traditional maid’s collar… in a good way! Another great blend of functionality and aesthetics.
Osage Pant: Over-dyed Military (Left) £148 - Lots of great details on these, from the pockets to the drawstrings making for a super original pair of trousers.
Osage Pant: Navy Plaid Seersucker (Right) £148 -Right on the boarder between elegant and casual, a super nice balance.
Obra Shirt: Abstract Dandelion (Top Right) £120 -More drawstrings again! A clear theme across the collection is emerging. I personally really like the drawstrings, and think they add a subtle but great element to their designs.
Obra Shirt: Indigo Mixed Circles (Middle Left) £120 -Probably my favourite design of the Obra Shirt
Obra Shirt: Coffee Floral (Bottom Right) £120 - The Obra shirt also has re-inforced forearms, inspired from a traditional workwear shirt and is made in the USA!
LO-FI Runner Cap: Inidigo Mixed Circles/ Coffee Floral /Abstract Dandelion £42 - Same designs as the shirts, inspired by a fusion between the old and the new using traditional fabrics from Jaipur, India paired with a nylon band usually seen in modern wear.
Timberland Vibram Mule £188 -Really like these, especially in burgandy. Comes with a vibram sole, and leather is top quality so the price isn’t too bad. I’ve already got some mules for summer, but if I didn’t I would probably go for these!
EDMA Paris’ First Drop - EDMA is a small brand based in Paris, inspired by the Japanese aesthetic, which if you’ve been reading the newsletter for a bit you’ll know i’m pretty fond of. The way in which this comes though is via their high quality and unique materials with a focus on those that are natural, particularly canvas. Similar to Porotodo, they re-visit workwear with a modern touch. Another great brand, and well worth having a look through their first drop!
CDG Homme: Patchwork Field Jacket £790 - Super pricy, but thats CDG for you. I still thoughts its worth including even if just to take inspiration from as its beautiful jacket.
Stumbled across this Indonesian furniture brand and thought the designs were really nice. They’re inspired from mid-century and modern design, much like many other parts of the newsletter today!
A couple bits from End & Means: Texture on the materials End & Means use are awesome and a big part of what I like about the brand.
Work Jacket (Top Left) £267
Polartec Ear Flap Camp Cap (Middle Left) £77
Engineer Work Pants (Bottom Right) £206
Clarks x Martine Rose £160 -These are super cool and are probably going to sell out so be quick!
Keen x Pilgrim Surf Jasper Zionic £160 -Looks like they’re selling out so be quick if you’re interested!
Tattoos By Leo @mahony_yoghurt - Never really seen tattoos exactly like this, seem to be some what traditional but also with an element of roughness which I really like.
They look particularly great on skin as you can see so check him out!
