Week 14
Sleeveless Knits, Japanese & French Workwear Brands, Pottery, Mid-Century Furniture, Medieval Tattoos!
This newsletter should have something for everyone, from second hand affordable pieces to mid-century furniture to pottery to Japanese workwear inspired brands and medieval tattoos! Loads of thorough research has gone into making this newsletter and so any support and feedback is much appreciated. Enjoy reading!
Walk In Paris
A brand inspired by the 1970’s, and hip hop culture from 1990s. They do not limit themselves purely to clothing, extending to the music and art world where they are active within the French scene.
Green denim is something you don’t see often, but they do it super well- and it makes me wonder why don’t we see more of it. Purple denim is pretty common and looks great if done right, but green denim is probably a bit easier to pull off and goes great with brown hues.
If you’re one of those people that can pull off a beret, then this has got to be one of the holy grails of beret’s. Really nicely built and made in France, a bit pricy at around £190 but the quality is there to back up the price tag.
Studio Jacket £162 (Top Left): I love anything with a checked print and this is one of the nicer ones. The light and dark blue tones contrast really nicely with the brown tones and also the subtle golden buttons. A super nice piece for sure!
Emerald Knitted Cardigan £162 (Bottom Right): A nice classic knit- no branding which is nice. Could be good for layering or as a standalone piece.
Vest Knit
Vest knits or sleeveless knits are some of my favourite type of knits on the market especially for spring and summer as they can be styled in so many different ways.
I’ve included some examples of Magnus styling vest knits above, you of course could wear a t-shirt underneath but I quite like the way he does it. If you were to style them with something underneath you can’t go wrong with a baggy white t shirt- the Uniqlo Supima t-shirt is a great affordable option. Sizing up is probably the way to go for a baggier fit.
The top right knit is from Magnus’ own brand ‘Ronning’, available here.
Went on the hunt for some vest knits myself and found a great mix of value for money, quality and design.
Marcazzani 90s Vest £54 (Top Left)
Yellow & Blue Vest £4 (Top Right) -Steal
Checked Knit Sweater £32 (Middle)
Woolrich Vest £50 (Bottom Left)
Multi Vest £26 (Bottom Right)
Toni Brutal Tattoos:
Love medieval inspired tattoos and these are great, they include lots of detail however I don’t think they will age particularly badly as there is a decent bit of spacing going on.
Slightly different style with this flash, but still super fun.
As you can see they his style renders really well on skin, sometimes with tattoos they can look great as flash but less so when executed on skin. They look even better on skin here!
Latre
Inspired by traditional techniques used within French and Japanese workwear, making for a unique cross-over between the two. They have a focus on using natural fabrics and that the clothes be timeless and functional- something I love to see in a brand as its the antidote to fast and trend based items.
Paracia Non-Safety Shoe
Suprised these aren’t everywhere to be honest- they’ve got the recipe for going viral nowadays: the vibram sole, fun colours and simply being a boot. They’re relatively pricey at around £215, but still much cheaper then alternatives by other brands like Roa.
Mid-Century Furniture:
Nothing does it for me furniture wise quite like simplistic mid-century designs with colours that pop. Loft me have got a great selection, you’re looking at around £300-£700, which is a lot but pretty reasonable compared to whats on the market.
Urban Primitives Pottery
Always love finding some cool jugs, they’re great just for decorating your room or the house or even using them for their intended purpose! These are pretty reasonably priced, between £14- £200 depending on the size.
Random Bits & Bobs
The Mull Trouser £105 (Left): Whitehill mercantile at it again using your grandma’s curtains on a pair of trousers and it works.. very well!
Drake’s Madras Patchwork Bag £115 (Top Right) Checked and patchwork, always a great combination.
PG Ladybug £131 (Middle Right) Playground always come up with some fun shoes and I like the colours on these.
Pileo Avant Garde Shoes £180 (Bottom Right) I’ll be honest, right now i’m not sure about these. But i’m still including them because they give me a similar feel to when I first saw tabies and who knows, maybe they’ll become as popular as tabies one day.
Thanks for reading!
