This newsletters jam-packed with recommendations so you’re all in for a treat. There’s a lot of military wear inspired pieces, the ceiling for military including navy inspired pieces is only going to get larger in my opinion. We’ve seen workware being super popular recently, and I think military and navy inspired wear though its similar to workwear is slightly different and feels like a fresh take on the sort of workwear we see everywhere.
Fereday Studios are the brand of the week this week, they’ve got some awesome uniquely made pieces, some feature sashiko stitching of which i’m a big fan. Sedan have collaborated with Dickies making for a great collab, one of my favourites this year to be honest. There’s a few surplus (get it) military/workware inspired brands i’ve included that are really great. As well as the usual recommendations from recent releases from a few brands including YMC, Noah and Paratia. Enjoy the read!
Fereday Studio- Brand Of The Week
Everything at Fereday is one of a kind as they use remnants, deadstocks and vintage fabrics meaning that every bag, cap and piece of clothing will have its own quirks. This usually also means a one of a kind price tag, but with re-worked chore jackets at £125 and sashiko stitched hats at £55 the pricing is super reasonable considering the skill and effort that goes into them. I personally also feel a lot better about spending my money on a smaller business where you can tell there’s actually a lot of passion for what they’re doing, they use organic cotton where possible and are fair wage certified, so fear not, no one is being exploited throughout the process.
So this is a french chore jacket that features a sashiko repair and some custom embroidery. Sashiko is probably one of my favourite things in clothing, if you don’t know what sashiko is its a traditional Japanese embroidery technique often used for repairs and re-enforcements. I personally think its great for just adding some interesting details to your clothes, Fereday in fact offer a do it yourself sashiko embroidery kit for £20 which i’ve ordered and am super excited to have a play around with.
I’ll say it again, close up the sashiko stiching really is awesome.
Fereday It’s Not a Chore Jacket (Left) £195- Made using remnant fabrics from production making for a unique one of one jacket
Fereday Cropped Field Jacket (Right) £145- Inspired from post Vietnam workwear, where field jackets were reworked. Another super unique piece, the subtle X on the left pocket works really nicely
Fereday Reworked Military Bag (Top Left) £55- Another military inspired piece, made from genuine military kit bags
Fereday Reworked Military Bag 005 (Top Right) £55- Again made from genuine military materials
Sashiko Stiching Kit (Top Left) £20- I’ve bought this and super excited to try it out, if you’ve got a bit of spare time and you’re looking to a start a little hobby this could be right up your street
Fereday Sashiko Cap 003 (Bottom Right) £55- This comes with a needle and thread so you can add your own stitches and get that creative flare out from deep within you that I know you have
Sedan
Sedan x Dickies is a really cool collab that have come out with some equally cool pieces with a retro yet some what modern feel to them. They’ve sold out pretty quickly but i’ve managed to find a website that still has them up for you guys.
The shirts have got a really nice texture to them and look to be pretty boxy for all you cropped and boxy lovers out there. I’m not really a tracksuit sort of person, but these are so nice, that I would wear them- if that means anything to you. The staple Dickies carpenter shorts with a little bit of Sedan flare over them works really nicely. All around, a great collab!
Cant go wrong with a stripy t-shirt, with a little texture to it as well. My bread and butter.
The shirt on the bottom has a really nice fit to it, and can incredibly convert from a shirt to a t-shirt, technology really is mind-blowing nowadays. But jokes aside its very nice and has my seal of approval.
Three Kingdom Overalls
I came across this little Japanese brand that have a focus on denim and thought i‘d share with you all. Its well worth having a look through what they’ve got as they’ve got loads on offer and it all looks to be pretty top tier quality at a reasonable price.
I personally really like the Shawl Collar Jacket on the top left made out of selvedge and inspired by the US navy. Another military piece on the newsletter, i’m getting predictable aren’t I but i do genuinely think we’re only going to see more and more military inspired stuff after workware seems to have died down a little.
Workware
Workware are a Hong Kong based brand that specialize in unisex, vintage workwear and you guessed it, military uniforms. There’s a real focus on durability and a mix between being inspired from the past and the future which I think comes through quite clearly in their stuff.
The sandwashed shirt above is super durable, and so baggy you could probably save some money and fit a mate in there with you. But I am a big fan of the slightly longer fit and move away from super cropped shirts we have seen over the last couple years as to be honest I think they can look a little tacky sometimes.
The balloon shorts are a staple at Workware, and again could probably fit an extra leg in there, which you never know, might come in handy.
Pictured above on the top left is a nice simple jacket, if you’re looking for something like this then its reasonably priced and great quality.
Can’t go wrong with a classy blazer, lots of space to breathe and super flowy. Would go really nicely with some balloon denim trousers, which workware do quite a lot of so have a look through their stuff.
Some Greenery with YMC
Nice to see YMC use a little more colour again, as since the new creative director i’ve found them a little uninspiring. But I really like this shade of green, there’s something quite soothing about it. Also the salba short is one of my favourite shorts on the market right now, they’re a little pricy at £215 but I think they’re a worthy investment.
Noah Loafers
Loafers with laces on might be the new pineapple on pizza, I personally really like it. But if you don’t I can’t blame you, i’d be interested to know what you think about these.
Paratia
I haven’t really seen the flap that has been made common by shoes such as the Wales Bonner Sambas used on smarter shoes. I think it makes for a fun mix, Paracia are one of my favourite brands for when it comes to footwear at the moment so I recommend having a little look through their stuff regardless of whether you like these.
Peters Prism
I came across Peter the other day and really liked his style, I think he uses colour really well. And the green trousers suit him, I feel like it’s still somewhat rare or at least not as common as it should be to see people wearing green trousers when they honestly look great with pretty much anything. Peter wears a lot of Engineered Garments, J Crew, Vintage Lacoste, Thom Browne, Bronson MFG and Comme Des Garcons. Basically, all sorts! But he looks great and I think is a great person to take some inspiration from.
