Week 19- Niche Brands, Nice fits... The Usual
Hiklo:
Hiklo are a small Bordeaux based brand that i’ve had recommended to me. I really like the way they shoot their clothes as it has quite a laid back but clean feel to it. The brand has a clear theme with items that flow pretty seamlessly together, without any designs that are too crazy or out there. What brings everything together is the fit of the pieces made, where it feels like you could essentially wear any of their items together and they’d work.
Materials used are super high quality with production often taking place in Portugal and fabrics from France.
As you can see there’s nothing too crazy going on, just nice colours, fabrics and fits.
Above are some of the items that they currently have available, all of which I would wear and I can be styled easily.
In terms of price point you’re going to be looking at roughly £120 for shorts up to £150 for trousers and £180 for shirts which is completely fair considering the quality and European production.
Plaid Zip Up Hoodie and Shorts by Punk and Yo
I put these to a poll on my Instagram as I had mixed opinions on them, on one hand I love a bit of plaid but I felt like maybe this was a little too much. But anyway, people seemed to be a big fan of these and so I’ve decided to include them. The jacket is priced at £166 and the shorts at £133.
Art Community:
Art Community have a focus on using older design techniques in new ways creating a little fusion. They’ve got some great balloon shaped trousers though they’re pretty pricy at £290. Materials are super high quality, for example they use Kuroki Raw Denim from Japan. So definitely a cool little brand too checkout and keep an eye on.
Kappy:
Kappy are a brand out of Seoul, Korea that started in 2020, they’ve got a strong focus on the materials they use. Where they make sure they have an essence to them and are easily wearable. They also pretty interestingly have a unisex one size fits all policy to all their clothing.
There’s a great selection of shirts, the standout thing across all of them is they use some great heavily textured materials. Lots of seersucker or slightly distressed materials are used which creates a subtle something about the shirt, which I love to see. They’re relatively pricey at around £150 on UK distributors such as pick-store but much cheaper if you buy directly from their Korean website,
These are very similar to the Gramicci G-trousers, but I prefer these slightly. The purple colourway is my favourite and would pop all year round. They’re also pretty affordable at £53 on their website, though you would have to pay shipping fees unless you are in Korea.
Joshua Samuels- Dickies Upcycled Shorts
A super baggy pair of Dickies re-worked shorts, you can’t go too far wrong if you’re looking for something like this for summer, or even winter if that’s how you role.
Paraboot: Thiers/ Jannu Miel
What a beautiful pair of shoes, they’re kind of a mix between a boat shoe and a boot making for a very elegant shoe.
Clarks x Engineered Garments
Interesting boot here, i’m sure there will be a little divide over these which is understandable. I’ve been a big fan of what Clarks have been doing of late, with so many great colourways and drops, this is another unique one for sure.
Romi’s Fits
I came across Romi’s outfits and really liked the way he used colour, pairing lots of different tones together which blend super nicely. He wears a lot of South2 West8. Bonne Geuele (which the shirt below is from), Ralph Lauren and Uniqlo. Which shows that you can dress really well without necessarily having to go for the most niche brands out there. I’ve noticed Romi’s socks are always on point, and add an extra layer to his fits too. Stay focused in the details guys ;)
