Week 21- Made To Order Brands, Drop Of The Week, Jim's T-Shirts, Harris' Outfits & More!
This weeks newsletter covers 18east’s new drop which is one of my favourite drops this year, genuinely so many great pieces. I’ve highlighted some smaller brands with a particular focus on made to order pieces such as the Selvedge Denim Jacket by Soft Life or the Metro Linen Trousers by Robert Jesse. One of my favourite things i’ve mentioned are the t-shirts by Jim, where he donates the proceeds to environmental and wildlife causes whilst making some fun and unique t-shirts. There’s also plenty more, such as Harris’ bubbly outfits. So have a read through and enjoy!
18east Drop
Probably one of my favourite drops this year, so many great pieces with all sorts of materials and textures. They’ve predominantly gone for earthy colours with a some what raw feeling to them. Price wise its pretty reasonable considering the materials used, with shorts, trousers and shirts priced around £100-150 and jackets up to roughly £300.
Make sure to have a look through the entire drop as i’ve selected a few highlights but there’s so many great pieces I haven’t included.
Pictured below is the Surplus Combat Smock, which takes its inspiration from the British combat smock from the 60s. It’s got loads of pockets, including one on the back which allows you to fold it up into a travel pillow, which who knows, could be the difference between life and death one day…
The Kell pleated pant also pictured below is already nearly sold out, it’s got a balloon shape to it but is significantly less exaggerated then many other balloon trousers which I prefer. Material is super nice and made out of linen twill so perfect for summer.
Featured below is the Vetti Utility Short made out of cotton seersucker, which is the short rendition of their vetti balloon pant. To be honest, I love a bit of seersucker and in this shade of brown it just looks soothing.
The Jaipur easy short features patchwork stitched cotton canvas where the embroidery has been done entirely by hand! Something you can’t take for granted in the fast fashion world we live in.
The Brera blazer made out of linen twill goes with the linen trousers I mentioned above, fair play if you rock them together, I think they could look great together if you pull it off right. Interestingly, the inspiration behind the blazer is from vintage Milanese tailouring where tailouring is more streamlined and understated. The Milanese influence comes through and makes for a really nice fusion creating an elegant piece that still has some of the cleanly ruggedness that 18east is known for.
Also featured below is the Cottage Giant Polo made out of cotton pique, its got a fun oversized fit and i’m a big fan of the earthy brown colourway.
Soft Life
Founded in London and locally made with an emphasis on less being more. Essentially they represent clothing that’s been well soldered together, that’s going to last you a long time with designs that are relatively simple and easily wearable.
For example, this Selvedge denim jacket is relatively simple but well put together and made to order. Ordering takes place via DM on Instagram.
Jim’s T-Shirts
Bit of a random one here.. but Jim Morris makes some lovely t-shirts where the funds go to supporting environmental and wildife groups. On top of this, as you can see from the image below, the t-shirts are genuinely really cool and they’re cheap at around £20, though they ship from the US.
Robert Jesse- Made to order trousers
Some more made to order pieces being featured here, I was particularly impressed with their ‘metro’ trousers made out of Irish linen. Priced at around £340 they’re not cheap but the the cut is super elegant and the materials used are high quality.
Outfits by Harris
Harris is based in Prague and described his style as a modern vision of vintage style which is pretty accurate in my opinion.
You’ll notice that Harris doesn’t only focus on the fit but also the background, which usually contrasts his outfit a little and makes for pictures bulging with character.
This is a guy dressing how he likes, not following trends and just doing his thing and you can feel it.
Mamnick
Yet another small UK brand where manufacturing takes place in the UK in factories across Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lancashire. Pricing is pretty reasonable at around £50 for a t-shirt and up to £300+ for a jacket.
They have a focus on functionality which is deeply rooted in British craftmanship.
My personal favourite is their Boucle Jumper in the chocolate colourway seen below priced at £165. I think the subtle roll neck works really well but remains more subtle then a full turtle neck.
