This weeks newsletter will delve into: Whitehill Mercantile- my favourite brand I found this week; the person I think dressed best this week; some innovative incense holders; as well as some of the usual clothing recommendations!
Brand Of The Week: Whitehill Mercantile
Whitehill Mercantile are a slow fashion brand where many of their products are made to order. Often the label slow fashion comes hand in hand with extortionate prices, this is certainly not the case here. With items rarely being over £150, and trousers typically under £100. You’re also not sacrificing on quality when purchasing here, as materials and craftsmanship are both top notch.
Their aim is to make great products that last and not to follow trends, this can clearly be seen in their collection and many of the items i’ve highlighted. They started with bags, which they are clearly very skilled at, however, I was very impressed with their range of trousers, and tops. To be honest, they are strong in all the forms of clothing they make, if I had to pick one area, perhaps their range of trousers are the best bang for your buck. Finding brands such as Whitehill and Mercantile that tick all the boxes: being reasonably priced; innovative; and high quality is increasingly rare and for this reason they are this weeks Brand Of The Week.
Dixie LightWeight Smock £135:
Made from water and wind repellent nylon, these are a great piece for the transition into Spring. I’m a big fan of the large front pockets as well as the drawstrings that remain subtle. I personally do not own a Smock yet but am very tempted by these.
Bertie Pop Over Shirt £165:
I love the pockets and fit of these overshirts, they mix a somewhat formal look with a more layed back approach provided by the pockets and the relaxed fit. Again, another great item for transitioning into spring.
The Mull Trouser £90:
The first trouser style that Whitehill came up with, a classic of their collection and for good reason. Most of these items are made to order and will take roughly two weeks to arrive. Considering the care and quality that goes into crafting these, £90 is a phenomenal price.
Dumgoyne Trouser £98:
This model comes with slightly more length than the Mull trouser with a similar ballooning silhouette. I am a particularly big fan of the green pair, which uses material from the 50’s.
Kib Bag £70 (Left) Duo Bag (Right) £60
They certainly do not let down with their bag collection, it is well worth having a look through their full collection of bags (there are plenty). Note the Duo bag pictured below on the right is also fully reversible revealing a camouflaged side.
Corona Game Jacket:
A small Japanese brand focused on utility, not a brand many will have heard of in the UK but certainly some great pieces. Which aren’t too badly priced especially if you’re buying directly from them in Japan.
The red buttons on the Game Jacket pierce through and I think add a really fun element to the jacket, though the brown version is also very nice. Its well worth having a look through their entire collection as they have lots of really great pieces.
Pikol Custom Made Jackets:
Pikol are a great brand that I came across that focus on repurposing materials, such as table cloths into clothing. Their pricing is not bad (£200-£300) considering these items are handcrafted with some exceptional designs. Bear in mind that many of their items will appear sold out on their website, this as most of their items are one of one, keep up to date with their instagram to purchase when they drop!
Best dressed of the week:
Soichi is impeccably dressed, i’m a big fan of the way he layers his clothing, as can be seen in the outfit on the left where he has a blazer under a trench coat. Not something you see all the time! His clothes are mainly from brands such as Beams Plus, Kapital, Ralph Lauren and Engineered Garments.
Random Picks of the Week:
Snowpeak Flight Cap £36 (Top Right)
Ultimus Store Wool Jacket £154 (Top Left)
Baserange Hoodie £136 (Bottom Right)
George Cox Dace £340 (Bottom Left)
Rolling Incense Holders:
Something a bit different from clothes I thought would be refreshing. Andu Masebo has a focus on making simple and efficient designs, or at least designs that have the appearance of simplicity. I thought these incense holders which rock back and forth on their own are the epitome of this. You should also find that your incense becomes much stronger smelling in the room as the holder essentially performs the function of waving it around on its own.
New/Upcoming Releases:
Puma x Collina Strada Mostro
Great womens release by Puma here, and pretty reasonably priced at £130.
Clarks Wallabees x Bott
Yet to be announced as to whether these will have a global release, they have currently been released in Japan, but you can still get your hands on them.
big fan of the outfit in particula, great shoes
